Upon completion of the M.A., currently enrolled degree students may apply directly for admission to the Ph.D. by contacting the director of graduate studies (DGS) in writing with their desire to enter the doctoral program. Those interested in continuing in the Ph.D. program in Literature and Language must have completed at least two 700-level seminars, and have a grade point average of 3.7 in Masters-level course work. Students with grade point averages below 3.5 will not be admitted for further study. Students with averages between 3.5 and 3.7, depending on faculty recommendations, may be permitted to demonstrate further their capacity for Ph.D. work at the discretion of the DGS.
Students interested in applying to the doctoral program upon completion of an M.A. at another institution should consult English department’s general application procedures.
