Are you interested in delving into the history of literature in English? This Master’s degree gives you the opportunity to do just that.
For this degree, students concentrate on literature over a broad historical range, taking at least four readings courses: two in fields of literature and culture before 1800 and two after 1800. Some seminar courses may be used to fulfill these requirements, upon approval by the director of graduate studies.
The degree requires a minimum of 30 hours of coursework, including at least one 700-level seminar. Students intending to apply for the Ph.D. program should take two 700-level seminars as part of their M.A. programs.
Reading proficiency in one foreign language is required, with language competency verified by the relevant foreign language department or program at IUB.
A thesis is optional, and there is no final examination.
For admission to the Ph.D. program with a concentration in literature, candidates must have satisfied the distribution requirements for the M.A. in Literature.
