Course Description

W103 is an introduction to the art and craft of writing creatively. In this class, students will study the basic craft concepts of poetry and fiction, closely reading and analyzing sample texts to understand how meaning and resonance are accomplished, and drafting their own original stories and poems. Large-group lectures and smaller discussion groups work together to give students both a general and individualized understanding of what makes writing effective--and how to make their own words as powerful and resonant as possible.
