Course Description

TOPIC: “Writing the Ethnic Midwest into Being”

This 100% online course will introduce students to the study of Ethnic American literature with a specific thematic focus on the Midwest. Our selection of readings will include works by Latinx, Asian American, and others who either live in, or write about, life in the Heartland.

The class will include primary source research as we look through back issues to track how IU publications like the undergraduate-run Canvas literary magazine and the Indiana Review, a professional campus-based non-profit literary magazine, include ethnic voices within their pages. The results of our inquiries will be published online as a Pressbooks e-book, edited and with an introduction by Dr. Halloran.
