TOPIC: “Writing With Community”
What does it mean to assume a meaningful, public voice in writing? With this framing question in mind, we will partner with local organizations in the development of community-based writing projects and presentations. Engaging diverse public genres, including but not limited to non-profit newsletters, community 'zines, and organizational profiles, this course aims to foreground community partners' expertise in the construction, analysis and circulation of information about local, public issues. Assignments include short, critical reflections on community partnerships in relationship to course readings as well as a longer writing project that involves successive cycles of pre-writing, drafting, revising, and editing with community members.
