Course Description

This graduate course in poetry writing is limited to students in the MFA Program in Creative Writing. In this poetry workshop, we will actively explore the craft and creation of poetry with an emphasis on story telling. We will read collections of contemporary poetry that investigate some of the different concepts of narrative, both within and across poems including Natalie Diaz's When My Brother Was an Aztec, A. Van Jordan's MacNolia, Cate Marvin's Oracle, and Oliver de la Paz's Names Above Houses. Students will write and revise at least 10 poems over the course of the semester. Department Authorization Required. Request permission through bhankins@indiana.edu. Instructor: Catherine Bowman
